Sherlockericks by WH Pipers

There's old Farqhuar, William and Mawson,
And Pycroft of Woodhouse and Coxon,
Beddington, Price,
Harris, Pinner (he's twice),
Pollock, Holmes, Tuson and Watson.

The Well-Known Adventuress

The cabby who whipped up his horse,
Knew a swift and sure route for his course.
His speedy four-wheeler
Must have been full of squealers
Cause they waited til the train for discourse.

Woodhouse and his partner Old Coxon
Lost their shirts with wagers on boxin'
They blamed Venezuela
For their company's fail-yuh
Wearing barrels and only their socks on.

With all of the limericks on STOC
Still coming all 'round the clock,
The tale must be inspiring.
(Or we're missing some wiring.)
Methinks that our poets do rock!

Brad (The Birlstone Railway Smash)

A foolish young broker named Hall
Should have paid Mawson's a call
He might have found out
What these crooks were about
And kept his good job after all

Hall Pycroft was scheduled to work
The position of stockbroker's clerk
If he'd done what he should
He might have been good
Too bad he was such a dumb jerk

Violet Hunter

BAD NOOSE

He had spread out his newspaper sheaf
With his fish-belly cheeks showing grief.
His brother would hang,
His prison door clang,
So he wanted his life to be brief.

John McDonnell

An offer that seemed hard to beat,
Beckoned Pycroft to Lombard Street,
But Pinner did tempt him
With a Birmingham invention
And Halls ending was quite indiscreet

Pinner knew when he read the news
Suicide he would have to choose
He went to his room
To hasten his doom
And to drum the door with his shoes.

Don Dillistone, 2002
